What makes COPE Scotland’s training, learning and consultancy unique?

Our approach developed over many years is rooted in listening and working with groups, communities, and individuals to produce something co-designed between ourselves and the stakeholders we collaborate with. This interactive, two-way process is built on the principle that "no engagement" means "no learning. “By fostering a collaborative environment, we ensure that every voice is heard and that our solutions are truly reflective of the needs and aspirations of those we are working with.

We focus on recognizing and valuing the wisdom already within those we are engaging with. By creating an environment that encourages self-discovery and reflection, we help people tap into their existing knowledge and experience. This sparks curiosity, builds trust, and strengthens confidence, empowering everyone to apply their learning in meaningful ways.

Our approach has striking similarities to the modern Socratic method

“People are  questioning their own ideas and thus developing their critical thinking.”

“One of the benefits of the Socratic method is that it draws the student and the teacher into an intimacy which cannot be achieved by lecturing as they both become active participants in  the  teaching and  learning process.”

Knox  D.K. (1998). Socrates: The  First Professor. (Innovative  Higher  Education, 23:2,)

We believe great teachers and facilitators don't showcase their own knowledge; they create environments where learners and participants discover their potential, gain confidence, and trust in their abilities to apply what they've learned.

Often the answers lie within ourselves, our communities and our organisations, COPE Scotland’s social enterprise offers a way to tap into that wisdom to help support real change. For more information, please email hilda@copescotland.com
